Calgary Home School Band - Parkdale - NW

The Calgary Home School Band program is tailored to home school students in Calgary and area. The two bands perform regularly, and are made up of players of all levels. Parents are welcome to participate and learn alongside their children, at no extra charge. Students move through the beginner and advanced bands at their own rate. Students will learn the instrument of their choice. No previous experience is necessary. Recommended age for beginner band is age 9 and up. Students in the Senior Band are welcome to learn a second instrument in the Beginner Band at no extra charge.

Meets on Tuesdays, at Parkdale Grace Fellowship church. Advanced: 1:30 PM. Beginner: 2:30 PM. Each band meets for 1 hour.

The cost is $250.00 for the year for approximately 30 weeks of lessons (mid-Sept. to end of May). Instrument cost/rental is extra.

Students must provide their own instruments. Rentals can be obtained at St. John's Music (403-265-6300), or Calgary Music Ltd. (North 403-282-1732, or South 403-287-9797).

My goal is to develop a love for music, while providing quality musical instruction. My desire is that my passion for piano becomes unavoidably contagious to my students. I've been teaching piano for almost 20 years. Lessons are tailored to meet individual goals, needs and tastes. Learn to play just for fun, or take the Royal Conservatory route with exams. I love all my students to learn a spectrum of styles - contemporary, classical, Christian, folk, jazz - and even learn how to play by 'ear' with chord charts. Rates are $20 per half hour lesson/wk. My name is Jill Kotchon, and I am a piano teacher in Airdrie. I have over 20 years of teaching experience, and my ARCT in Piano Performance. I teach all ages and levels of piano, and teach theory up to Introductory Harmony. Although most of my students will work their way up to the Royal Conservatory program, my goal is to develop a well-rounded pianist, capable of playing many styles of music. I have an extensive library of music which my students can borrow from. Those of my students who wish to can participate in RCM exams, the Olds Music Festival, and the Calgary Music Festival. I'm happy to assist my students in whatever way they may need.

I hold a B.Music, B.A. in Religious Studies, studied at Banff School of Fine Arts, and did Jazz Studies at Malasapina U. I teach drum set and all percussion instruments, and music theory.
